Sriwhana Spong, Costume for a Mourner, choreographed and danced by Benjamin Ord, 2010, HD video

Costume for a Mourner re-imagines remnants from the lost ballet Le Chant de Rossignol, originally choreographed by Massine for the Ballets Russes in 1920. The choreography draws on the direct experience of inhabiting the re-constructed costume designed by Matisse, tracing a pathway across moments of collapse and resurrection while immersed in a heightened sense of gravity. The work evokes a sense of traversing the bi-secting temporal realms of presentness and loss, history and contemporaneity.
